Kate Stern at the Toledo Museum of Art

HARMONIC MOTION by Toshiko Horiuchi MacAdam.

I adore this piece and loved the whole PLAYTIME exhibit, which I saw this past summer at the Toledo Museum of Art. I traveled solo by car around America for 144 days on what I dubbed MY BIG ADVENTURE and although I had seen photos of a variation of this piece on the internet (which I had in fact posted on my ART I LOVE page on Facebook), I hadn’t expected to see it live and therefore could barely contain my excitement when I happened upon this exhibit on a stop at this museum one day while breaking up a drive from Cleveland as I worked my way towards Chicago.

PLAY has always been an important part of my work. In fact, my dream museum show is entitled CHILD’s PLAY. So when I saw the words PLAYTIME written on the museum wall and worked my way through the exhibition, well I can’t quite find the words to express my elation! With the artworks not all child-like, but all invoking some sort of play, I felt like I had met a kindred spirit in this exhibition and it was in fact a nice respit from some of the more serious art I had been taking in around the country. My thanks to the Toledo Museum of Art for giving me that experience!
